PIPE FITTING TRADES

A plumber is a master craftsman who installs and repairs varieties of piping systems that carry water, waste water, natural and medical gas and waste in buildings. They join pipes and install fixtures like bathtubs, toilets, lavatories, dishwashers, water heaters, roof drains, and floor sinks. Often they design these systems from code requirements and from blueprints and drawings. They have the very important job of protecting the health of the state and nation through clean, safe drinking water and the removal of waste products from homes and businesses.

A steamfitter is a master craftsman who installs many varieties of piping systems. They layout, fabricate, and assemble pipes from drawings, blueprints, and specifications. They install both high and low pressure pipe systems that are used in manufacturing, in the generation of electricity, in heating and cooling buildings, and high purity piping systems.

A pipefitter-refrigeration mechanic is a master craftsman who installs and services sophisticated equipment, state-of-the-art controls, and complete environmental control systems in schools, hospitals, offices, hotels, airports, malls, and apartment buildings. They also service and repair package units and large tonnage refrigeration equipment.
