What is the Tohono O'Odham Career Center?

The Tohono O'Odham Career Center offers apprenticeship training in carpentry, electrical, heavy equipment, painting, facilities maintenance, plumbing, sheet metal and computer peripheral equipment operator. The training is done with on-the-job training as well as related classroom instruction with college credits. The programs are restricted to members of the Tohono O'Odham Nation.

How do I qualify?

Must be a least 18 years of age

Must have a high school diploma or GED

Must have a drivers license

Must be a member of the Tohono O'Odham Nation

What do I need to apply?

Copy of birth certificate or other proof of age

Copy of high school diploma or GED

Military discharge form DD-214 if applicable

Tribal I.D.

Social Security card

Drivers license (Must obtain within six months from date of acceptance)

Successfully complete an aptitude test

Appear for interview when notified

What are program specifics?

All of the following programs provide both on-the-job training as well as related classroom instruction with college credit.

Carpentry

Length of program: 4 years

Upon completion of 2 years recognized as journeyman residential status only

Upon completion of 4 years recognized as journeyman status

Electrical

Length of program: 4 years

Upon completion of 2 years recognized as journeyman residential status only

Upon completion of 4 years recognized as journeyman status

Heavy Equipment

Length of program: 3 years

Painting

Length of program: 3 years

Facilities Maintenance

Length of program: 2 years

Plumbing

Length of program: 4 years

Upon completion of 2 years recognized as journeyman residential only

Upon completion of 4 years recognized as journeyman

Management Information System

Length of program: 2 years

Upon completion journeyman computer peripheral equipment operator

Sheet metal

Length of program: 3 years
