What is a Millwright?

Millwrights are construction workers who set and install industrial equipment. They install conveyor systems, pumps, pumps and motors, giant electrical turbines and generators. Millwrights install and do maintenance on machinery in factories as well as much of the precision work in nuclear power plants. Millwrights are highly skilled mechanics who study and interpret blueprints, then put their knowledge and expertise to work drilling, welding, bolting and doing whatever is necessary to assure the cogs of industry are in perfect working order.

How do I qualify?

Must be at least 18 years of age

Shall be physically fit for work

Must have reliable transportation

Must have Social Security card, valid driver's license and either picture ID, birth certificate or U.S. work permit

Each applicant must file a written application furnished by and completed at the apprenticeship office

Passing of a drug test is a condition of acceptance into the apprenticeship program

What are the program specifics?

Length of program - 4 years

Related classroom instruction with college credits

Starting pay 60% of current journeyman rate

Pay increases every 750 hours on the job

What do I need to apply?

Applicants must have the following minimum tools:
Combination end wrenches 5/16"- 3/4", 1/2" drive sockets 3/8" - 3/4", 1/2" drive ratchet, Channel lock pliers , 6" steel rule (graduated in 1/64"), 16 oz. Ball peen hammer, 25" steel tape measure, Phillips screwdrivers (#1, #2, #3), Common slot screwdrivers (small, medium, large - one of each to start), Metal scribe, 12" Adjustable wrench and a Tool box capable of holding all tools on this list.
